Hello Again

Every time I try to begin writing, it seems, something happens. This past time, I had a heart attack. Then, my lap top died. I sold my house. Now, in the midst of a worldwide pandemic on a borrowed laptop, I am socially distancing (isolating?) myself with a cat in a 745 square foot condo, feeling like time is dragging by ever so slowly as I attempt to amuse myself. What have you done so far? Welcome to My New Space

I began blogging back in 2006 on a whim before it was cool and everyone had a blog. A writer friend of mine started even before that, and following her lead, I thought I'd dip a toe in and see what happened. I was completely unprepared for the community I would find and all the wonderful things that would happen along the way. Besides stretching my own creative muscles and finding that writing made my soul sing, I accidentally started a food blog and as a result had the opportunity to travel and meet some of my favourite chefs, write for awesome companies, and meet talented writers who I now call friends. I also found myself and acquired some self confidence I didn't even know I had. Life was fantastic and I was ready to take this writing thing as far as I could go, but fate had other plans; in 2012 my best friend died of cancer, my husband became seriously ill, and suddenly we had to move to an entirely different community. Buckwheat Chocolate Banana Bread

I'm pretty sure I cried when I first made this loaf and nibbled at a still warm piece, greedily licking melty chocolate off my fingers. You see, I had all but given up hope of finding a sweet baked treat I'd be able to eat and so this was, dare I say, slightly life changing. Finally I had something I could tuck into the freezer for days when there was birthday cake at work that I couldn't have, and THIS was definitely not those passable but not-so-wonderful substitutes, but instead a delicious oh-my-I'd-rather-eat-THIS one. Studded with chocolate, dark and slightly nutty but not too sweet, this loaf is the perfect little snack with a cup of coffee or afternoon tea. The original recipe contained no sugar aside from the bananas and applesauce, but John and I found it to be a bit too bitter for our liking so I've added a little.
